Alignment with nature

Use the wheel of the year to follow the natural cycles.

There are eight holy days or holidays

(every six weeks the wheel turns and there are subtle shifts of energy)

1.   Winter solstice or Yule: December 21 - January 1

2. Imbolc: February 1-2

3. Spring equinox or Ostara: March 20

4.  May Day or Beltane: May 1

5. Summer Solstice or Litha: June 24

6. Lammas or Lughnasadh: August 1

7.   Fall equinox Mabon: September 21-29

8.   Samhain or Halloween: October 31 – November 1

We can use these different time periods to be clear on what we want to focus on, release and check in for short periods of time. It’s a simple way to be in tune with the natural rhythms of the planet which is important because we are cyclical beings. There are weather shifts depending on where you live but there’s also energetic shifts. For example, summer is a very busy, fiery, energetic time; whereas, fall is a slowing down nurturing season which helps prepare us for the shift into winter (an internally focused season)

Our body recognizes these natural rhythms so it creates ease and flow in our life. We are not designed to run at the same high speed in the same way all the time.

Aligning with the natural rhythms enables us to make the internal energy shifts and changes that we need to make to be in flow and alignment.

 Nervous System Info

Today we live in toxic environments and are overstimulated by devices, disconnected from nature, spirit and purpose. If you are alive there is a strong purpose for you now. People want to live on purpose and have more freedom.

Our nervous systems are designed to keep us alive. Right now, nervous systems are often overwhelmed and/or to shut down (numb/lethargic /low energy).

Exercises to assist the Nervous System:

Here are some super simple ways to calm the nervous system when you feel flighty, uppity, overwhelmed:

1.    Get into your legs and lower body. Practice grounding squats (15 slow squats, strong feet on the ground, engage your glutes and thighs. Press against the Earth as you stand up and draw energy up from Earth as you squat down.)

2.    Lie on the ground face down - press your forehead into the ground (or towel, blanket, mat, hands). Inhale, press your belly and chest into Earth, exhale drawing support up from Earth into your body. Soften shoulders down. Let everything melt. Feel held by Earth beneath you.

3.    When you're out in public: place your hand casually on top of your heart, neck, or throat area, as if you're chatting with a friend with your hand gently placed across your upper body. This guards your energy and draws your vital energy back into your center when you're in public, at work, in a meeting, driving, etc. Consciously inhale deeply and release the exhale out of your nose very slowly. No one will notice that you're soothing your nervous system!

Tips to get moving when you feel shut down and immobilized:

1.    Wherever you are (bed, a chair, bathroom, whatever): reach your arms straight up overhead, spread fingers wide, wiggle fingers, rock the head side to side, and reach long and tall like a cat getting up from a nap.

2.    If that feels okay, sit upright or stand up. Gently massage your arms, forehead, cheeks, and thighs for at least 1 full minute (ideally 5!). Breathe in through the nose with three quick breaths (in-in-in), and exhale swiftly out the mouth (ha or hoo). This 3-part breath will activate more energy in your body, quickly drawing in 3 times on the inhale and swiftly exhaling with an open mouth and the sound of "ha" or "hoo".

3.    If you're starting to feel mobilized after these two practices, practice the grounding squats mentioned above. Sometimes that doesn't seem possible if we feel really shut down.. so give yourself grace and compassion and just do the first tip mentioned here.

Wellness practices help us thrive not just survive. Choose practices that you can make your own and incorporate them in ways that are fun full of fun play in freedom so they will be sustainable.

Only when we allow ourselves to face the full spectrum of our human existence can magic happen, as well as connection, growth, depth and bliss.
