Extended Show Notes

Highlights from the Episode:

1.   Healing from the center is putting you at the center and not your symptoms, diagnosis or issues and finding that relational point. How are you relating to your life?

2.   It’s a spiritual center. A relaxed part of the nervous system which allows for healing. Our body’s natural ability is to heal.

3.   Our natural state is our center. Our center is peace, grounded, connected and has a knowing of what you need.

4.   Ask : What do you need to add into your life and health and what do you need to remove. You need to be aware of thoughts, emotions and your body to allow for natural flow.

5.   The body has a natural wisdom and a memory which holds our wounds. Your body is trying to keep you safe. How you perceive your environment is based on old patterns and memories that are stored in the body so we end up over reacting to things and losing our sense of what’s natural that’s within us.

6.   We pick up on other people’s nervous systems.

7.   For healing you can start anywhere.  Pick one thing and get started.

8.   Dis- ease (disease) comes from blocking ourselves. When we’re not processing emotions by avoiding or distracting, you are literally binding your cells in such a way that they can’t accept the “feel good” Neurotransmitters. Crying releases the biochemicals blocking the cells.

9.   We are wired for bliss.  Our cells need a free flow of emotions to be able to feel the bliss. When you feel something, what’s your go to strategy? Is it TV, coffee, work ,sugar, wine? Can you stop and be with your emotion?

It takes 90 seconds for an emotion to pass. There are messages/wisdom in the emotion that we miss if we don’t connect to the emotion and choose to distract from it.

10. Anger teaches us boundaries and is a catalyst for action.

11. Suppressing our emotions is violence against ourselves.  We need to create the internal sense of safety that enables us to stop running and fighting and meet ourselves where we are. When we find ways to do that, the body can heal and the mind and emotions can be processed and find their natural equilibrium.

12. Meet yourself with love, compassion, curiosity, and self-acceptance and find out where you really are and go from there.

13. Our bodies hold memories. A lot of your reactions and mental stories come from your nervous system and how it was trying to respond to life. Learning about it and meeting it with curiosity and compassion enables healing. Slowly shaping your nervous system toward safety enables this process to unfold.

14. You are not a self-improvement project. We are all enough. We have everything we need right now. Your core being or essence is undamaged free and whole. Allow the process and lessons to unfold as you surrender to it.

Sparks of Wisdom From Ann

1.   Our center is undamaged. It is the ultimate place of safety within. It is your place of intuitive knowing. It’s easy to access.

2.   Create frequent times throughout the day to access your center even for just a few minutes. Slow down and connect with your body, your breath, heart and turn within. Check in with how you’re doing mind body and emotions. That’s how we shape our nervous system.

3.   Healing is not a self-improvement project. It’s a self-acceptance and self-compassion process. The ultimate wound is the separation from our Divine source.

Ann's Bio

Ann Petrus Baker, BSN, MPH, of Essence Health is a Mind, Body, Spirit Practitioner whose mission is to co-create transformational experiences with clients and groups that help people to improve their health and well-being. Her approach, Healing from the Center, acknowledges that life can knock us off center, but with a bit of direction and remembering, we can find our way home. That home, our Center, is our natural state of awareness, peace and happiness from which we can create health and well-being. Healing from the Center uses a combination of “top-down” and “bottom up” modalities bringing mind, body and heart into alignment. This approach is very effective for a variety of mental and physical health conditions such as anxiety and depression, digestive issues, migraine headaches, pre-diabetes, weight loss, hormone imbalance, chronic fatigue and pain syndromes, and autoimmune disease. Her expertise comes from combining her background as a nurse with her interest and training in holistic health, neuroscience, spirituality, contemplation, Internal Family Systems and Jungian Psychology. This combination addresses the whole person and helps to get to the root cause of the disharmony. Your natural state (your Center) is health, happiness and peace. What’s getting in the way?  What needs to come into balance?
