Highlights from the Episode:

Needed for listening

1.    You need to be in the present moment (vs. past or future) to be truly listening.

2.    You have to be still to ask the questions and listen. There is a flow and groundedness in stillness and there is so much life, and creation within that.

3.    Trust your intuition (yourself)

4.    You need to be able to be honest with yourself and “go to the ugly”.

5.    If you are authentically listening and acknowledging what your being is in that moment, it’s going to feel heard, acknowledged and respected. There is no rigid amount of time or routine needed.

Listening (check-in) snacks

Throughout the day check in and listen to your body, mind, breath, and being and see what comes up. What thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations etc. Scan your body and notice what your attention is drawn to.

Ask yourself: What state of being am I as I am moving throughout the day? What state of being am I as I am listening? Am I trying to control and get things done or am I creating from an empty receptive state of being that is curious, open, empathic and listening?

If you check in and discover something but don’t have the time to work with it right then. Acknowledge it, breathe into it, feel it and come back to it later to release it. (vs. just ignoring it).

It does not take a long time but makes a huge difference.

 Questions to assess your listening

1.    When in a conversation, how often are you thinking about your next question or answer versus listening to the other person’s response?

2.    With so much info coming at us it is easy to be overwhelmed. Stop and ask your body, soul, or self-what’s going on right now? How are you? What would you like to share with me?

3.    Are you listening with an open heart and empty being? (Rather than being focused on what you want)

4.    Can you listen to the pain that is annoying you this moment, even if you may want to ignore?

5.    Can you sit and feel uncomfortable for the moment?

6.    Can you give a voice to discomfort you are experiencing? (See exercise below)

7.    Have you taken time to listen to your inner committee or are you censoring yourself?

8.    How often do you shut down parts of your own being?

Exercise to use once you listen and connect with what is needed and release blockages

1.    Give a voice to your discomfort

Make a noise that speaks its message or hum which enables the blockage to be released. It does not matter how you do it. Whatever feels real to you. It takes feeling comfortable enough in yourself to be ok with doing it (making the vocalizations). This process enables you to recognize and accept what is happening, give it a voice and then release it. The body wants to be heard. Truth can come through the voice (vocalizations/ sound) without being manipulated by the mind.

2.    Gestalt Empty Chair

If after listening, you determine that the issue is connected to another person, you can use this exercise to bring up and air out the issue in a way that enables it move on and not get stuck in the body or mind.

Visualize (or actually place) an empty chair in front of you. Check in and see who it is you need to speak with. Feel into the energy of the other person. Visualize and connect with them. Then talk for them (You can move into the other chair that represents them if you have a literal chair in the room). This enables you to experience their perspective.

Then, move back to your chair (literal or figurative) and talk from your space and energy.

3.    Music bypasses the mind. The frequency and vibration of sound goes right to the heart. It talks to the person listening to it and creates their own unique interaction. So, you can choose music and other forms of sound to promote healing.

These are just a few suggestions. There are endless options… Listen to what YOU need and go from there…..

Spark of Wisdom from Claire

1.    Life is all about dancing in authentic listening and savoring the process.

What can you savor in this moment?

Claire's Bio

I spent years working as a musician and teacher. Classically trained, I worked as an accompanist, performer, and musical director. The past 5 years brought many changes into my life and I began to train and work as a healer.  Though I still work as an accompanist, I am now drawn toward allowing myself to channel emotions, energy, and experiences into music as a healer.   Music is an intrinsic component of my soul and therefore lives in all I do.

I use other modalities as well as music to work with clients. I trained with Holistic Health Practice founder, Kurt Hill, in a three year intensive training program. I am also able to incorporate tapping, active listening, altered state work, cognitive behavioral therapy, and hands on energy healing into a client session.
